Titleist 909 Drivers Customer Review

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to try out the new Titleist range of drivers, the 909 D composite, the 909 D2 and 909 D3 and first impressions were very favourable.
I’ll describe them in turn. All three clubs were fitted with firm shafts and 9.5* lofts.

The 909 D is a 460cc driver with a composite crown. The club looks good at address, is beautifully balanced, and performs really well. The one I tested had a 9.5* loft but it effortlessly launched the ball out and gave a pleasing straight ball trajectory and long carry, and therefore distance, from the practise tee.
I’ve often found in the past that Titleist drivers had an unforgiving nature – hit it properly or the ball goes nowhere – but the 909 D composite seems to have a lot softer feel to the strike while it doesn’t sacrifice performance doing so and still gives good results with a less than perfect hit.
Very impressive. A lovely club that performs extremely well. 9/10

The 909 D2 is again a 460cc driver but this one has a titanium head rather than the composite of the 909 D. This was immediately apparent on taking a couple of practise swings, The club head felt heavier compared to its stablemate but it still gave a pleasing appearance at address and performed well, the 9.5* lofted face gave good carry in a straight line. I couldn’t quite obtain the distance with it that I’d managed with the 909 D but it wasn’t far behind despite the heavier feel of the club.
Nice driver that was little heavy for me. 7/10

The 909 D3 is similar to to the 909 D2 apart from the fact that the titanium head is 440cc rather than 460cc. Now this worked for me, I found the smaller head gave better balance to the club compared to the 909 D2 and I had no problem launching long straight shots from the 9.5* face, although the distance I acheived was just shy of that I’d managed with the 909D.
One again though the strike felt good off the face and I found the club very user friendly.
My second favourite. 8/10
