Tiger Woods: series one

By, Mark Crossfield/ PGA Golf Professional

In the Learn from the best series I am going to help you learn how to hit better golf shots by learning from some of the best golfers in the world. Every golfer is very different in size and style but if you want to hit the golf ball straight with any level of consistency then you will have to apply some fundamentals.

To start us of we are going to look at the number one golfer in the world Tiger Woods, we can learn so much from Tiger’s swing but what I want to show you is how good he is at hitting from the ground up. He generates his great power and accuracy from his ability to push from the floor up through his body and move that energy down into the club and then the golf ball. He does this by making sure he moves all the many parts of the golf downswing in a particular order. This is a skill I don’t see enough in club golfers, they are too eager to return the club head to the golf ball without allowing their bodies to help with the hit. When tiger starts his downswing he is very quick to move his hips to an open position, while at the same time he leaves his shoulders in a closed position until he is just about to hit the ball. This allows him to transfer his weight onto his left foot from the ground up also the energy from the hip rotation can then be transferred into his shoulder turn and finally his hands and club head to optimizes his power and strike.

To hit better golf shots you must also hit from the ground up and unwind your hips, shoulders, arms and hands and finally the club head, no more snatching from the top.
